- Learn about the information needs of nurses in clinical and education settings.
- Reflect on strategies to meet these needs in relation to accreditation and certification standards, especially as they relate to the ANCC Magnet Nursing Initiative.
- Identify collaborative education and service strategies to improve information services for nurses and nursing students in your organization.
- This course has been completely updated to match the requirements in the 2008 Magnet manual.
- While this course is open to all interested students, it is particularly of interest to librarians in Magnet aspiring or designated hospitals, as well as academic nursing librarians working with nursing faculty and students. Interest in the Magnet initiative is growing in academic institutions, where faculty may be requested to consult with institutions on the Magnet journey and supervise studies in Magnet institutions.

- If you work with nursing faculty & students and/or nurse managers & staff, this course will help you develop your search skills, so that you can improve search services for these groups. In addition to databases and searching, it includes discussion of teaching and collaboration skills.
- The course includes a model for evidence based searching, overview of nursing terminology, and practice searching MEDLINE, CINAHL, and Mosby's Nursing Index (free trial access provided, courtesy of database vendors).
- Learners are expected to do searching and share their results.
- Discoveries about searching and EBN are shared via weekly online discussion forums.
- Registration/waiting list for Feb. 23—March 30, 2010 and future sessions. Depending on interest, course will also be taught in the summer and/or fall, 2010.

- Finding the Best Evidence to Meet Nursing Information Needs was a workshop for health sciences librarians who want to improve their ability to serve nursing managers, staff, faculty, and students. The course is also appropriate for nurses. It focuses on the best evidence-based information resources for nursing practice and research, including databases, websites, and the knowledge-based literature. The instructor will review high-quality information resources and demonstrate search techniques for finding answers to nursing questions submitted by participants. The instructor and participants will share and discuss ideas for meeting nursing information needs in both academic and practice settings.

Nursing Information Access: Library Services for the Nursing Profession - no longer available
- Course was approved for 8 hours MLA CE Credit.
- Last taught October, 2001 Triple Chapter Meeting in New Orleans.
- Nursing Information Access covered unique aspects of nursing and its knowledge-based information resources that impact information services for the nursing profession. It included the development of nursing and its literature, assessment of nursing information needs, development of library services for nurses, and nursing information resources in all formats.
- The organizing framework was the feedback lecture, with liberal use of audiovisuals and database/online demonstrations.
- Instructors will demonstrate effective database and Internet search techniques based on participant search questions.
- Participants received a syllabus including information presented in class, key Internet resources, sample resources, and an extensive annotated bibliography.
